Lake Hamilton Career Development
On November 2nd, Phi Theta Kappa Advisor Dr. Rebekah Robinette and Chapter President
Melissa Krafft visited Melody Gilleran's eighth grade Career Development class at
Lake Hamilton. Dr. Robinette and Miss Krafft spoke to the students about gender roles
in the work force in conjunction with Phi Theta Kappa's current Honors in Action research
project about the subject of gender stereotypes and roles. They discussed women in
the sciences and men in care giving roles who break the stereotypes for these positions.
Dr. Robinette, a biological scientist and faculty member in NPC's Math and Sciences
Division who teaches anatomy and physiology and microbiology, spoke of her journey
to becoming a female scientist in a geographical area not conducive in encouraging
women to pursue careers in the sciences. The pair handed out brochures as well as
information for the science programs at NPC.
