UAMS, UALR VISIT CLASSES DURING COLLEGE EXPLORATION DAY FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS
Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) students visited with representatives from The University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) last week as part of College Exploration Day activities. NPC hosted College Exploration Day last Wednesday in the atrium of the Frederick M. Dierks Center for Nursing and Health Sciences.

Tina Paxton, LMSW Field Trainer for Mid-South and Stephanie Christian-Carpenter, Bachelor
of Social Work (BSW) Field Coordinator, LCSW, AADC, both from the UALR Social Work
program visited with students in Samantha Christian’s General Psychology class. They
explained what social work entails and common misconceptions about the field. They
let students know about internship opportunities, how to prepare and the Associate
of Arts transfer agreement that allows students to enter the UALR Social Work program
as a junior. Christian-Carpenter graduated from NPC and transferred to the UALR BSW
program before she was employed with UALR. The guests also shared information about
the online Master of Social Work program and Bachelor of Social Work program.
UAMS Respiratory Care program director, Erna Boone and NPC graduate, Samantha Martin
visited with students in the Respiratory Therapy program. Boone shared about the transfer
agreement with UAMS and how impressed the university has been with graduates from
the NPC program. UAMS allows students to complete the Associate of Applied Science
in Respiratory Therapy along with a few general education courses and transfer as
a junior. The agreement also provides prior learning assessment credit for clinical
work completed at NPC. Martin said she felt “very well prepared” after transferring
to UAMS. She completed a portion of her respiratory clinicals at Saline Memorial Hospital
while at NPC and will begin a paid internship with the hospital this month as part
of her training at UAMS.
