VFW AWARDS NEW SCHOLARSHIP

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) veteran student, James Clark was awarded the first $1000 Veterans Education Assistance scholarship from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10483 last month.

Clark is working toward a degree in criminal justice and works on campus in the Veteran’s Center. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for more than 20 years and completed seven tours of duty. He was deployed to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Afghanistan and three tours in Iraq. He has four children.

Veteran Scholarship Recipient“The main goals in our post charter include helping veterans and families in the community. This scholarship fulfills all of these things,” said Commander Don Stokes. He said the VFW hopes to award the scholarship each year.

Clark plans to use the funds to help with the cost of books and other school expenses. “I greatly appreciate the help. I am honored to be the first recipient of this scholarship, but don’t feel I really deserve it,” said Clark. “There are so many students who need help, I hope the scholarship will continue so that others may benefit as well.”
