PTK STUDIES PROSTHESES
Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College’s (NPC) honors society, Alpha Beta Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), hosted People, Pictures, Prostheses: The Possibilities Tuesday evening. The event was part of an annual Honors in Action project.
This chapter's goal is to bring community awareness to the evolution of these engineered, life-enhancing products. PTK President, Howard Cheresnick said, “The project is intended to raise awareness of prostheses and how they have evolved over the years, as well as how they have changed people's lives in our community.”
Keynote speakers, Malone Galster, CPO Resident for New Hope Prosthetics and Orthotics of Hot Springs presented “The Evolution and Function of Prosthetics”, and Mr. Kelly Davis from Hanger of Little Rock shared Insignia™, a 3D scanner that uses laser imaging to fit patients for prosthetic limbs. Special guests Mike Galster, Carol Dixon and Ben Scarbrough, all prostheses patients, shared their experiences with attendees.
NPC Innovative Technologies Center (ITC) Executive Director, William Polk displayed
prosthetic hands that were created using 3D printing technology.
PTK students who worked on the event included Cheresnick, Melissa Krafft, Cheyenne
Walker, Kaylin Murphy, Jeffrey Golden, Felicia Beasley, Michelle Godwin, Steven Barber,
Paige Baxter, Laura Alonso-Lopez, Terri Bland, Joeli Bradley, and faculty advisors
Nannette Crane-Post, Dr. Rebekah Robinette, and Samantha Christian.
