Student Leadership Addresses NPC Board

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, August 24. Items for report included updates on student life events, student government association projects, and workforce training. The Board welcomed new hires Donald Caudill, Higher Ed Program Manager; Kathy Edwards, Institutional Services Assistant; Kurtis Markish, Purchasing Specialist; Bruce Hankins, Controller; Ferris Allen, Music Instructor; Dr. Judith Bride, Chemistry Instructor; Kevin Day, High School Criminal Justice Instructor; Timothy Jackson, EMT Clinical Director; Ashley Simmons, Practical Nursing Instructor; Lana Taliaferro, Art Instructor; and Dr. Christopher Thrasher, History Instructor.

Hotel Hot Springs Invests In Employee Training

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) Community and Corporate Training Division is partnering with The Hotel Hot Springs to offer employee training in customer service, ethics and leadership. Since its grand opening in April 2016, NPC has hosted six separate classes for The Hotel Hot Springs. The staff completed a Leadership Series which included a Stepping Up to Supervisor class for new leaders, a team building workshop, and a time management class to help spur productivity. They also completed classes in successful negotiations and CPR certification. Workforce Specialist, Barry Ballard said, ““We are very excited to be a training partner with the new Hotel Hot Springs and provide leadership and hospitality professional development. It is clear they are working very hard to move to the next level and want to provide their staff with the tools to reach that goal.”

Diamond Lakes Defenders Announce Scholarship Award

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) criminal justice student, Keanna Peck has been selected to receive the Diamond Lakes Defender First Response scholarship this year. Peck is entering her second year in the criminal justice program at NPC. She is passionate about pursuing a career in law and hopes to use her skills to help troubled youth though juvenile court. She has worked as an intern for the Garland County Juvenile Court, and recently completed a summer internship with Congressman Bruce Westerman in Washington, D.C. The $500 award was presented to Peck Tuesday by members of the Diamond Lakes Defender Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Paul Calcagno, president, Harold Woody, treasurer, and Mike and Linda Roberts, members. The Defenders Motorcycle Club began in 2004 and includes chapters all over the United States. Members are active and retired law enforcement, military, emergency services and public safety personnel.

NPC Hosts Young Manufacturers Academy

August 9, 2016

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) hosted a Young Manufacturers Academy (YMA) last week. This was the second annual event for YMA which included 25 students in sixth through eighth grade. The weeklong academy was full of activities that introduced students to numerous career opportunities in the field of manufacturing. Highlights of the week will included a robotics activity at the Mid-America Science Museum, a Lean Manufacturing Event hosted by the Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions Group, a visit from the Be Pro Be Proud mobile unit, industry tours to Alliance Rubber and AirTech Supply, and a field trip to the Arkansas School for Math, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA). Student teams presented about their experiences to their families and friends Friday.

Campus Closed for Staff Development

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) will be closed Monday, August 15 until 11:00 a.m. for faculty and staff professional development workshops. Offices will resume normal business hours Tuesday, August 16. Registration is open now. Classes begin August 17.
