VISUAL AND MEDIA ARTS HOSTS SUMMER SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) student Film Group of the Visual and Media Arts Department will host a Summer Shorts Film Festival for young filmmakers June 28 and 29 on the NPC campus. The festival is open to students currently attending area colleges and high schools. Cash prizes of $500 will be awarded for the best picture in both the college and high school categories. Second place films in each category will be awarded $250, and third place films will receive $100.

All films must be 10 minutes or shorter. Films to be screened and those receiving awards will be selected by jury. Films may be in the narrative (fictional), documentary, or animation genres, and should be in Quicktime (.mov) or mp4 formats. Films should be uploaded to YouTube and the YouTube address should be sent, along with the student's name, phone number and email address, to rbrowne@np.edu, so they may be viewed and downloaded. College students should provide an image of a current college ID card with their entry, and high school students are requested to state which school they attend.

Summer Shorts Film FestivalRichard Browne, instructor in the Visual and Media Arts Department, expressed excitement about the festival and the cash awards, "I don't know of many film festivals offering monetary awards, and we are happy to be able to provide a venue for the young filmmakers in our area. We know there are many high school and college students who love making movies, and this is their chance to show their work."

The current schedule calls for high school films to be screened June 28 and college work to be shown June 29. The deadline for entries is June 20.
