NPC DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID ELECTED TO NASFAA BOARD
Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) Director of Financial Aid, Lisa
Hopper was recently elected to the National Association of Financial Aid Administrators
(NASFAA) Board. She will serve a two-year term that will begin July 1, 2016. She faced
opponent, Jack Edwards, Director of Financial Aid for Stanford University Graduate
School of Business for the position of Representative-At-Large. She believes her experience
and advocacy efforts for community colleges ultimately helped her earn the votes she
needed.
The NASFAA Board provides federal advocacy, policy guidance and training to financial aid professionals across the United States. The board is made up of representatives from universities and community colleges of all sizes.
“I am thrilled about this opportunity,” said Hopper. “I am passionate about financial aid because it is one of the most important factors in helping our students succeed. We want students to leave college with as little debt as possible and we do our best to educate them on the risks of borrowing. This role as a national advocate will allow colleges and universities in Arkansas and across our region to have a stronger voice in policy decisions facing our campuses,” she added.
Hopper is a native of Oden, Arkansas. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas Tech University and a Master’s of Business Administration from Henderson State University. She is a certified public accountant and is well-known for her knowledge of student financial aid issues. She has presented as a subject matter expert regarding student loan default management, reduced student borrowing and financial literacy.
Hopper has been involved with the Southwest Association of Financial Aid Administrators (SWAFSAA) since 1998. She served as SWASFAA President in 2013 and currently serves as the Training Chair for the southwest region. As part of her new role, Hopper will attend the NASFAA conference in Washington, D.C. in July where she and other members of the board will visit with members of Congress about issues facing college campuses.
