Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Crisis Team and building captains participated in a tabletop training exercise yesterday in the NPC gymnasium. NPC provides annual crisis training for staff to help with crisis prevention and preparation.

The Garland County Department of Emergency Management (GCDEM), the Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) and the Garland County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) partnered to prepare the presentation. Captain Chris Chapmond of the HSPD, Chief Deputy Jason Lawrence and Investigator A.J. Tart of the GCSO led the event. GCDEM Director, Bo Robertson assisted with planning the training that included discussion and tabletop exercises related to active shooter and bomb threat scenarios.

Associate Vice President for Human Resources, Janet Brewer is responsible for crisis planning on campus. She stated, “We are extremely grateful for the participation of our local law enforcement agencies and all of the support and assistance they provide to us. We understand that we can’t possible prepare for every potential crisis scenario, but we are doing everything we can to mitigate the chances of serious losses of both life and property should a crisis occur.”

Chief Deputy Lawrence added, “The Garland County Sheriff’s Department and the Hot Springs Police Department are proud to assist our area schools with crisis training. The partnership that we have between all first responders and National Park College makes our community safer and better prepared.” Crisis Training Excercises at NPC
