GCSPSF Awards 2016 Scholarships

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County hosted a reception last week for students who were awarded a scholarship for the 2016 spring semester. The program was held in the Southside Student Center at National Park College. Recipients and their families were invited to attend. Dr. John Hogan presented opening remarks and several students shared their stories. The committee approved 17 students to receive the $750 scholarship award, totaling $12,750. Five of the students are first time recipients and all are full time students. 15 of the recipients attend National Park College and two attend Henderson State University.

Oaklawn Foundation Awards Scholarship to Nursing Student

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park College (NPC) nursing student, Dulce Olivia Diaz was awarded a $1,500 scholarship from the Oaklawn Foundation for the spring semester. Diaz is 22 years old and the oldest of five children. She immigrated to the United States with her single mother as a small child. She is proud to be a first generation college student. Though her mother only completed a sixth grade education, she motivated Diaz to achieve her college degree. It is important to her that she set an example for her younger siblings and honor the sacrifices her mother made so she could pursue her dreams. Diaz has worked extremely hard to be successful in school while maintaining a full-time job to help with expenses. Once she began nursing school, the workload was too much and she had to reduce her work to part-time.

Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County Hosts Awards Reception

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Garland County will host a reception Thursday, March 10 at 5 p.m. for students who have been awarded a scholarship for the 2016 spring semester. The program will be held in the Southside Student Center at National Park College. Recipients and their families have been invited to attend. Dr. John Hogan will present opening remarks and several students will share their stories. 17 students have been approved by the board to receive the $750 scholarship award, totaling $12,750. Five of the students are first time recipients and all are full time students. 15 of the recipients attend National Park College and two attend Henderson State University.

Saline Memorial Hospital Donates Equipment to NPC Health Sciences

January 21, 2016

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Health Sciences Division received a GE MAC-5000 from Saline Memorial Hospital last month. If purchased new, the GE MAC-5000 echocardiogram (ECG or EKG) equipment costs approximately $15,000. ECG equipment is used to measure electrical activity in the heart. The Health Sciences Division plans to use the equipment for teaching proper technique in obtaining ECGs as well as identifying ECG patterns that require medical interventions.

NPC Announces Van Davis Memorial Scholarship Awards

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The National Park College (NPC) Foundation announced the recipients of the 2016 Van Davis Memorial Scholarship today. Amanda Poole and Kelley Ryals were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Amanda graduated from Lake Hamilton High School in 2013 where she participated in concurrent credit classes through NPC. She credited Scholarship Coordinator, Matthias Elder with helping guide her through the scholarship process. Amanda hopes to complete a teaching degree so she can help students to “excel in life and prepare them for a better future.”
