Mike Wiles was born in Corning, Arkansas and grew up in central and north Arkansas
with a few years in southern Missouri. He attended twelve schools, three his senior
year, and graduated from Mammoth Spring High School. His post-secondary education
began at Southern Baptist College, now Williams Baptist University, when it was a
two year college. He received an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and transferred
to Arkansas State University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree
in Social Science.
Wiles' career path detoured away from his education major after graduation and he
settled into the business world for several years. He kept feeling the need to work
with teenagers and eventually answered the call to teach. To prep for teaching after
all of those years in business he completed his Master of Science in Education in
Secondary Counseling at Henderson State University.
Wiles' employment experiences outside of education include, but are not limited to,
inside sales at a lumber company, picture framer and engraver, assistant manager of
a jewelry store, service manager then sales manager at a marina, and office manager
of a forestry company. There was a two year stint at Bauxite High School, his first
teaching position, followed by twenty years at Fountain Lake High School as a classroom
teacher, interim counselor, and eventually career counselor and career and technical
education coordinator.
Wiles has been the director of NPC Career Academy since July of 2016. As director
his goal for every NPC Career Academy program is for each student to leave prepared
for the next step in life whether it be college, the workforce, the military or some
type of additional training.
