Brian Charles grew up in a small town in Southeast Kansas called Altamond. He attended Labette County High school and Pittsburg State University where he graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Industrial Arts Education, and a Master of Science in Education in Industrial Arts Education.

Charles started his teaching career at Allen County Community College in Iola, Kansas teaching in a Manufacturing Technology program. He has taught at several public schools in the areas of woodworking, computer-aided design, welding and mechanical, architectural, and technical drafting. Before coming to NPC, he taught Architectural Design 1 and 2 for ITT Tech in Little Rock. He has also worked in industry as a CAD technician/designer. His primary design workload was waste water treatment plant components and conveyor systems. He is in his 11th year at NPC, where he teaches the High School Wood Tech courses.

His hobbies include woodworking, designing and building props for marching bands and parade floats, fishing, boating, hiking and gardening.
