BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Student clubs and organizations are important to the college experience and are encouraged by the Board of Trustees. Students who are involved in campus activities of their choice are more likely to complete their educational goals. Student clubs and organizations are encouraged by the Board of Trustees, when duly organized, approved and operating within the guidelines of College policy.

SCOPE

The goal of student organizations at NPC is to provide students additional tools that will assist them in their chosen occupational fields, heighten their knowledge of cultural appreciation, achieve a greater personal happiness, and develop concepts of responsibility and service to others.

AUTHORITY

To be a recognized student organization at NPC requires the approval of the Student Government Association, the Dean of Students and the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

DEFINITIONS

Student organizations that have met all required criteria are defined as a group with at least five currently enrolled credit students at the time of recognition and a designated NPC faculty and/or staff advisor.

POLICY STATEMENT

The Board recognizes the Student Government Association as the official student organization on campus whose purpose is to be the voice of the student body and foster leadership development among students. Once officially recognized by the College, an organization is entitled to all rights and privileges afforded to other college organizations. Student organizations must renew their registration annually to be eligible for funding from the Student Government Association. Faculty and administration support of duly recognized student organizations is expected, since such are an important part of a students’ college experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management is charged with the fostering of student organizations, including a duly approved Student Government Association. A constitution recognized by the Board of Trustees will be kept on file in the Student Affairs Office. All College employees and students are responsible to know and to abide by College policies. College policies applicable to students will be communicated through the student handbook.
