NPC INSTRUCTOR SPEAKS AT STATE GEOLOGIST MEETING

Maxey, an Environmental Geologist and adjunct professor at National Park College, spoke at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA) during the State Geologist Meeting. The open event was to discuss his speech, Pharmaceuticals in our Drinking Water – What, If, But.

The talk was a brief review of four aspects of pharmaceuticals their consumption and disposal. First, was a brief look at possible pathways for pharmaceuticals to migrate into our drinking water. Second, was the history of unused pharmaceuticals and why proper disposal and monitoring is important. Third, was a review of the first legal drug take back program in the United States in 2008. Fourth, explained a cursory look at the current pharmaceutical take back program in Arkansas. Finally, after the talk there was a short question and answer period and some speculation on what the future holds for pharmaceutical and our drinking water.
