TRiO - Student Support Services

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally-funded program created to provide services to eligible students. The NPC SSS program serves approximately 225 eligible students each semester.

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) include:

  • Advising in academic, personal, career, and financial literacy areas
  • Transfer and transitional services for those students wishing to transfer to four-year institutions
  • Tutoring in most subject areas
  • Disability services
  • Small group non-credit math instruction
  • Cultural enrichment activities
  • Financial literacy workshops

How to apply:

To start the application process for the TRIO SSS program, fill out a brief questionnaire (2017 TRIO SSS Questions to Determine Eligibilityor pick up an application on the second floor of the Campus Center. Ask for a TRIO Student Support Services staff member! New participants are admitted at the beginning of each fall semester.

Congratulations to 2017 TRIO Hall of Fame student, Howard Cheresnick!

Howard CheresnickUpon arriving at National Park College as a non-traditional student, I was extremely nervous about my ability to adapt to education so late in life. Being surrounded by younger students that were fresh out of high school made me have doubts. Soon after, I attended the TRIO student mixer where I met the advisors and staff.  That one meeting jump started my academic success.  I knew I had the drive and passion to be a great student; TRIO gave me the support and tools that I was lacking to be successful. It is the little things that make the biggest difference when you do not realize that you need them.  Planners, flash drives, help with scholarship applications, and most of all -- personal support. TRIO staff members direct you to the right people to help you with any issue and then follow up to make sure your issue has been resolved. My TRIO experience has been amazing. It has given me the confidence to seek out help when I need it.  I am more confident in speaking with my professors, as well as other personnel around campus. I have never been involved in many social clubs or activities until I joined TRIO.  I am now very active on campus at social events, as well as becoming the president of Phi Theta Kappa, and being a Student Ambassador. None of this would have been possible if it was not for the support of my TRIO advisors and staff.

 TRIO has been a resource that I will use throughout my final year here at National Park College. I will actively seek to help others join this amazing group, as it has changed my academic and personal success on campus. The TRIO staff have made me feel like family, and have always been available for me when I need them. I am sure I will seek them out after graduation should I need any assistance – and I know they will be there for me.
