HOSA STUDENTS COLLECT 50 BOXES OF SUPPLIES FOR REMOTE ALASKAN SCHOOL

Hot Springs, Arkansas – National Park Technology Center (NPTC) Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) students collected more than 50 boxes of school supplies for the Relda’s Reach project.

The project began last fall when the HOSA students discovered a need for school supplies for a disadvantaged school district in Mountain Village, Alaska. With the help of the National Park College (NPC) faculty, students and staff, as well as collection stations throughout the community, HOSA members were able to collect 50 boxes of much needed school supplies for the remote community.

HOSA members also raised the funds to pay for shipping many of the boxes to Alaska. At the postal rate of $25 a box the Relda's Reach Projectstudents, along with assistance from the NPC Foundation were able to ship 32 of the boxes to their destination in Alaska. The organization is still soliciting funds to ship the remaining boxes before the end of the school year.

Relda’s Reach derived its name from an NPTC Health Science Technology Education instructor, the late Relda Steelman, who was highly involved in community service which she instilled in the students whose lives she touched.

For more information about the project or how you can assist, please contact National Park College Health Science Technology Education instructor Sherree Hughes.
